Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - June 2018
GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.
There will not be a meeting in June as it is our Annual Outing. The coach will pick us up at 9.30.A.M. and we will travel first to SAFFRON WALDEN, where we will spend an hour. Then we will go on to AUDLEY END HOUSE and GARDENS. We can tour the house and stables and enjoy the garden for the afternoon. Fingers crossed for a fine day!
Well, our AGM went very smoothly. The meeting was overseen by Sheila Gunson, a WI advisor. Our president, Carol, who has worked tirelessly for the last 11 years to make our branch so successful, has called it a day. Nonee and Marian presented her with a lovely bouquet of flowers and a card from the membership as a token of our appreciation. A round of applause was followed by the election of new committee members and TWO presidents who will share the task. The new presidents are Sandra and Susan and we congratulate both and wish them well. The committee welcomes Maria and also Sharon as new members . Well done everyone.
The Annual Prize for the ‘flower of the month competition’ was announced by Julie. Linda won the rose bowl for taking first place and Pat won the vase as runner-up. The display of Spring flowers on the table this month was especially beautiful and we applauded Sheila’s laburnum and Pat’s apple blossom as first and second.
The collection of food for the Maldon Food Pantry was a great success. Many villagers made their way to the church in warm sunshine to donate items that had been requested by the volunteers who run it. The food was delivered to the food bank by Carol and
Joyce and we thank all those who ‘did their bit’ to alleviate some of the problems facing families in the Maldon area.
