Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - June 2016

GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.

There will be no meeting in June as it is our ANNUAL SUMMER OUTING and this year we are off to Cambridge for the day on 14th June. The coach will leave the square at 9.15 a.m. Let’s hope for a fine day or financial damage might be done in John Lewis.

The ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING was held on Wednesday 4th May and chaired by Joyce. Carol was  in South Africa visiting her family but Joyce was, as always, entirely aware of all the official procedures and conducted the meeting most efficiently. The year’s activities were reviewed in the President’s report, read by Mary on behalf of Carol. Once the business side of the meeting was concluded the pizza delivery man arrived and everyone enjoyed refreshments with cakes and shortbread on offer as well. Members voted the President and committee in to serve another year with the welcome addition of Nicole who has taken over responsibility for the web site . The committee wish to express our gratitude to Rachel and Claire who stood down due to pressures of work. Organising our many and varied activities and meetings does take up a deal of time and we have enjoyed the benefit of their fresh approach to their roles. We will still enjoy their company at meetings and welcome their views and ideas.

The flower of the month was Linda’s flowering cherry Anawagowa, withClaire’s fritillary, known as snakeshead, coming second.  Many thanks to the members who provided the refrehments. They were lovely.

Our evening walk to THE SWAN at Little Totham was very successful. After a day of heavy rain, the evening turned out fine and dry. The meal was lovely with very friendly service and a perfectly-sized room for our numbers. We will certainly be including another walk there in the future.

Also, the lunch at THE CRICKETERS was enjoyed by 27 members at the end of April. We all had the GOLDEN OLDIES menu and were comfortably seated in adjoining rooms. Everyone had a good chat with no driving involved. Excellent!
