Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - September 2016

Our next meeting will be on September 7th at Goldhanger Village Hall at 7.30 P.M. The speaker will be Mel Rees whose tales and observations of everyday life have kept us entertained before. This talk is entitled “AND ANOTHER THING I MEANT TO SAY.” Please bring a single stem flower for the competition and any toiletries that can be handed on to Kerry.

The August meeting was a very enjoyable evening. As we all arrived we were soon seated at the tables tackling the quiz. Team names included THE DIMWITS, THE BOTTOM SET and THE CLANGERS who went on to win the quiz with a score of 25. Well done, ladies!A brief agenda of business followed and then the fish and chip supper was delivered. We all enjoyed our supper and we thank the ladies who helped to clear the hall and kitchen area so efficiently at the close of the meeting. The ‘flower of the month’ competition was won by Linda with a lovely clematis and a very pretty fuchsia came second. Competition winners ,please make yourselves known to Julie for inclusion in the records.

We had lovely weather on August 4th for our SUMMER PICNIC LUNCH in Carol’s garden.  The lawn was set up for croquet thanks to Patsy, who loaned us the croquet set. As we had no croquet players among us we made our own set of rules, loosely following advice given by Jill Joslin, and the game progressed well.  Boules matches were also played using the larger gardens and we all agreed that the afternoon was a great success and one that we would like to repeat next Summer. Many thanks to Carol and Tony for arranging the afternoon so well and welcoming us all to their lovely garden.

Before our next meeting we will be involved in the Gala Weekend, serving tea, coffee and cakes in the Marquee.  Please bring cakes to the Community Room between 9.00 A.M. and 11.00 A.M. on Saturday 3rd September and ,if you are serving cakes over the weekend , please bring your white apron if you have one. We do have a few in W.I. stock for those who don’t have their own.
