Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - November 2016

Our next  meeting will be on November 2nd and our speaker will be Phil Glover . ‘ THE LIFE AND TIMES OF A PUB LANDLORD’ is the subject of the talk. We’ll be laughing for sure!

Please bring a single stem flower from your garden to enter the competition.

Last month we heard all about the role of women on the Home front in World War 2 and our speaker, Carol Harris, taught us a great deal in her relaxed, anecdotal style. We learned that Churchill , in a conversation with Beveridge, had great misgivings about inviting the organise the conscription of women around the country as they would be unlikely to do as they were told. Thus was formed, at Churchill’s behest, the WVS.  We also learned that a speaker at the1935 WI AGM  who made the Nazi Salute to introduce her talk was booed off the premises, never to appear again.

Boards were circulated for our ANNUAL DINNER at THE CHEQUERS on October 20th, for our CHRISTMAS DINNER on December 7th and for the MALDON PANTO next year.

The ‘flower of the month ‘ competition was won by Sandra with her New Guinea busy lizzie with Claire’s lavender striped clematis coming second.

Everyone enjoyed the lovely refreshments and we thank the members who provided them so efficiently.
