GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.

Our September meeting will be held in the Village Hall at 7.30 on Wednesday 6th September. We are having our ever-popular BEETLE DRIVE with a FISH AND CHIP SUPPER. Please bring along a drink and nibbles if you wish but be aware that there will be little room on our tables once the games commence.

We all enjoyed the August speaker, Jane Sillet, who spoke to us about the GUIDE DOGS FOR THE BLIND ASSOCIATION with the help of her adorable trainee guide dog, Ziggy. Puppy walkers are always needed to teach the dogs basic manners and commands before they can be trained in earnest for their responsibilities in guiding their owners on their daily outings. We learned that the cost of a guide dog, over a lifetime as a working dog, is £50,000. We collected donations from members after the talk and also, as Jane waived her fee, we made a formal donation to the association as well.Refreshments were served and the flower competition was judged awarding first place to Jackie ‘s pretty rose and second place to Sandra’s begonia. Well done, both.

Animals also featured in our evening with Cherry Hood and her ALPACAS on July 19th. What a joy that evening was. Cherry made us very welcome and her talk was most interesting. Some members were lucky enough to help with the evening feed and we all witnessed Cherry’s devotion to their welfare. A real treat and right on our own doorstep!  In lieu of a speaker’s fee, Cherry asked us to make a donation to Little Havens Hospice and we were very happy to do so.

A large group of members went along for a lovely evening meal at THE SWAN at Little Totham. Several of us walked and others arrived by car. We all enjoyed the pleasant atmosphere and the hospitality of our hosts.

The activity for September is our theatre visit to see JOSEPH and HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR DREAMCOAT at the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend. The coach will leave the square at 5.30 p.m.
