Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - January 2018
GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.
Our next meeting on February 7th 2018 will include a talk by our very own Steve Clarke on America in the 1960’s. There will be a ‘flower of the Month’ competition, so if any single stem blooms put in an appearance in our gardens in time for the meeting, please bring them along to brighten the table with a glimpse of Spring.
The January CHEESE and WINE evening was very well attended, although we did miss a few members who were ill. There was lots of catching up to be done after Christmas and New Year and we all enjoyed the lovely selection of cheeses and pates , pickles and breads. Many thanks to all the members who contributed items for us all to savour. Special thanks to Patsy who brought two delicious home-made pates for each table.
The entertainment followed after the distribution of very pretty birthday posies made by Paddy. Catherine played a beautiful piece on her cello which was evocative of a stroll along our sea wall, followed by George with a local sea shanty backed by a group of Jubilee Choir members. Then we had a return visit from a friend who serenaded us with the Ballad of Barry and Freda! All serious stuff, obviously! A rousing chorus of Yellow Submarine, with Catherine setting the tone, followed. A lovely surprise was to come when Jean stepped up to tell us the story of Albert and the Lion. What a memory! Word perfect! Many thanks to all.
We host our popular LENT LUNCH in the Village Hall on February 23rd. This year the proceeds are to be donated to Maldon Food Bank.
