GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.

The July meeting on Wednesday 5thJuly will be an AS YOU LIKE IT evening with a programme of entertainment. Bring drinks and nibbles to make the evening go with a swing but save a bit of appetite for our usual tea, coffee and cakes.  A single stem flower for the competition would be most welcome.

Our June Annual outing to Burnham and NEW HALL VINEYARD was very enjoyable. Members and guests enjoyed a leisurelydrive to Burnham and the weather was very kind to us after the squalls and gales of the previous day. Some of us enjoyed a late breakfast in Burnham and others went for a delicious lunch. Then we boarded our coach again for our WINE TASTING AND TOUR OF NEW HALL VINEYARD. We all had a wonderful time sitting in the sunshine sipping their excellent bubbly. We watched a most interesting short film about the history of the vineyard and learned of its’ Roman origins and of links with the signing of the Magna Carta, for which the celebration wines were provided. Fascinating stuff! We toured the vineyard and winery with Lucy, our guide, who  was an absolute gem. Her extensive knowledge and light-hearted delivery suited us perfectly.

Beautifully laid tables awaited us for the tasting and the generous samples of wine, cheese, biscuits and chutneys were lovely. We were ferried back to Goldhanger with bags and boxes of plonk for later consumption. A lovely day out and just up the road from home. Wonderful!

At the end of May we also had a lovely time at Forester Park Golf Club where we learned the basics of a game of CROQUET. Maldon Croquet Club organised the event  for us and we enjoyed the glorious sunshine as we played. We ended the morning in the club where we were served platters of sandwiches andcould buy a drink from the bar.

Our extra activity for July is our STRAWBERRY TEA . This will take place in the churchyard and begins at 3.p.m. on 13th July. Pimms will be available  and tea for those who prefer it.
