Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - July 2018
GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.
Our next meeting will be our BEETLE DRIVE on August 1st. This event is always a favourite with our members and guests alike, and it usually turns into quite a raucous affair!!
Our July meeting speaker was Ann Hardy who gave us a talk on Ladies Underwear through the ages, and also brought along some beautiful examples of them. Some of the pieces were quite masterfully engineered, and we learnt that most corset makers were nearly always men! It was quite comforting to know that nowadays we do not have to resort to ‘Roll-Ons”, ‘Bottom-Rolls” & pieces of either whale bone or carved wood to create a straight posture into the front of dresses.
Is it any wonder that Marks & Spencer command a high percentage of the UK lingerie market nowadays!
We are also looking forward to a meal at The Swan Public House in Lt. Totham in August which has become a regular yearly event. Phil Cornell always does us a lovely varied menu for which we are grateful.
A Vintage Tea is proposed in August in the church grounds, of which there will be more information
on the website. We have plenty of activities to look forward too through the summer months.
The Goldhanger WI website is a great source of information to those who wish to check on events and timings. This is regularly updated and a great reminder of dates and timings should anybody need to refresh their minds.
Our new President/s & new Committee Members are now insitu, & navigating their way through the melee of tasks and procedures which their role commands. I am sure they will get good support from members past and present as they embark on their new WI year.
