Goldhanger Parish Magazine Article - September 2015
GOLDHANGER, LITTLE TOTHAM and TOLLESHUNT MAJOR W.I.
Our next meeting will be held in Goldhanger Village Hall on September 2nd at 7.30 p.m. and it will be our very popular Beetle Drive. Fish and Chips for members and guests are all ordered and we can all bring along our drinks and glasses, with some cutlery, ready to roll. Be prepared for some tough competition from the chaps!
The talk by Jean Smye at our August meeting was very well attended and proved to be absolutely fascinating. She shared her extensive knowledge of bee-keeping with dry humour and prompted lots of questions afterwards. Her description of swarms of drones, lingering on street corners, waiting to pay court to any passing virgin female bees made us laugh. Jean sold a lot of her delicious honey on the evening and was insistent upon foregoing her fee. We have decided, therefore, to donate it to charity.
Boards were circulated asking for members to help out with the refreshments at the Art Show during Gala Weekend in September and cake-makers volunteered to bake . Joyce will be contacting us all to confirm our time-slots and cakes required. Due to the generosity of our members, who bake the refreshments and give of their time, we are able to be such a vibrant W.I. with lots of activities going on.
We welcomed a new member, Nicole, who learned about us from our web-site. Thanks to Rachel, who manages it so well, it is proving to be a very popular way of checking up on all that is happening in W.I. It is also a delight to see the lovely photos posted there of everyone enjoying themselves.
The ‘flower of the month’ was Pat’s campanula with Sandra’s phlox coming second. Congratulations to you both.
Photos were taken by Julie and Heather of a large group of us enjoying our Annual Lunch at Forester Park Golf Club on August 10th. Both the weather and the food were lovely and everyone caught up with news from each other over drinks before we sat down for the jacket potatoes with various fillings and salads. Many thanks to Pam and Kate who organised everything so efficiently.
Information is up-dated each month on the website. Go to www.goldhangerwi.co.uk. New members are still welcome to join. Please contact us via the website or just come along to a meeting.
